Annual Report
As you will read in the 2011 Annual Report, New Yorkers showed their generous hearts toward those in need more than ever this past year. The Bowery Mission and Kids With A Promise were flooded with volunteers in every corner of our ministry, from tutors to food preparation to our special Don't Walk By street ministry – a record 63,000 hours of service. We are grateful to our donors, volunteers, and staff for their generosity, faithfulness, and ingenuity during this past year.
Highlights of the year included:
- We hosted over 79,000 nights of shelter.
- We provided 369,200 hot, nutritious meals to the homeless.
- The Don't Walk By campaign engaged 900 homeless individuals. 542 were transported to an 'anchor church', where a hot meal, medical care, and case workers were available to counsel and pray with them.
- Kids With A Promise provided more than 1,000 youth with summer camp, scholarships, retreats, community service projects, group mentoring, and internships.
- Best of all, we graduated 166 formerly homeless men and women to transformed lives of spiritual growth, sobriety, employment and independent living.
