President's Update – February 2015

Moving into the next chapter of our history

Dear friends:

2015 marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for The Bowery Mission, and for me personally.

For over 20 years, I've had the privilege of serving alongside thousands of generous volunteers and donors, and hundreds of dedicated staff to provide hope to hurting and homeless New Yorkers, through compassionate care and life transformation programs.

Together, we stood strong during terrible tragedies and powerful storms hitting our City, embracing men and women when they needed it most. And most recently, your support enabled us to double our capacity to offer second chances to adults who need one, and positive first chances to children at-risk.

At this pivotal time and as a partner of The Bowery Mission, I am pleased to share with you two important pieces of organizational news.

First, we are establishing The Bowery Mission Foundation, a subsidiary of The Bowery Mission, which will help expand and complement its existing fundraising capabilities to strengthen our long-term sustainability. I am happy to take on the challenge of being President of The Bowery Mission Foundation to help ensure our staff has the resources they need.

Secondly, as I transition into this new role at the Mission, we will welcome David P. Jones, a veteran business executive and ordained minister, as the new President and CEO of The Bowery Mission, succeeding me effective April 1. David's passion for helping the less fortunate is truly inspiring, which together with his business acumen make him the right person to lead us forward.

David will join us after serving as the interim executive director of Newark's Goodwill Rescue Mission, where in less than a year he facilitated a dramatic turnaround that returned the Mission to its central role as a provider of services for the poor, homeless and addicted in Newark, New Jersey and surrounding areas. Before that, he spent almost three decades in the business world at the accounting firm KPMG, where he retired as a partner.

Read more about David’s background here.

I am looking forward to working side-by-side with David as we both transition into our new roles at the Mission. Thank you for the incredible difference you make in the lives of hurting New Yorkers every day through The Bowery Mission.

Gratefully,
