Volunteer Medical Clinic Team at The Bowery Mission

I'll never forget one night after working at The Bowery Mission clinic. I helped many patients that evening, and afterward, I went out to dinner with a friend. As we were walking into the restaurant, I saw one of the gentlemen I had just treated that evening... he was sleeping in a doorway. Then I saw a female patient going into the garbage to look for food. It was a sobering reminder of the important work we do at The Bowery Mission — and how much we need to keep caring for the souls who don't have anyone else to help them.

Medical Clinic Wishlist

PODIATRIST: We are seeking a licensed podiatrist who can assist with foot-related issues that so many of our patients experience.

ROLLING CART: We need a new or gently used solid, rolling medical cart with drawers that can hold medicine & common supplies.

ELECTRONIC MEDICAL RECORDS: We are eager to transition from paper charts to digital records in order to save time and keep an accurate account of patient visits. Tablets or computers and medical record software would be much appreciated.

Out in society, the homeless are nameless. But when they step into the medical clinic, we know their names. We have a file just for them. Our amazing, educated nurses and professional staff are providing quality medical care. From treating upper respiratory illnesses to nagging foot ailments through the cold, winter months, our homeless clients are given top-notch assistance.

We also provide food, eat together, talk and listen to their stories. They receive much more than medical care; they receive human care. And it's because of people like you who support The Bowery Mission.

The medical clinic offers critical help and tangible expressions of God's love to the homeless. If you or someone you know is interested in volunteering or donating toward the wishlist, please email volunteer@bowery.org

Please note, for the safety of our community:
  • All medical clinic volunteers are required to have their own private, individual non-hospital affiliated malpractice insurance.
  • All nurses and doctors must be fully licensed with a valid New York State license to practice and must be board certified in their respective profession.
  • Unfortunately, we are unable to accept nursing/medical students, residents, and fellows as medical volunteers.
