New Year's Wishes from the Mission

Red Door E-Newsletter - December 2011

For people experiencing homelessness, ringing in the New Year is not a celebration — it's a painful reminder of their personal misery and the hopelessness they feel at being able to do anything about it.

At The Bowery Mission, however, we give these men and women the chance to hope and dream again. Your generosity gives hurting people the foundation they need to take their first steps toward a whole new life.

In this issue of The Red Door, we celebrate and honor the hopes and dreams — and the courage — of the men and women at The Bowery Mission who choose to transform their lives in 2012.

Joel's New Year's Wish

"My New Year's Wish is to build my business back up..."

I worked hard all my life, owned my own construction business, and made a lot of money. Then I lost it all because of the economy and by end of 2010, I started using drugs. Last week I graduated from The Bowery Mission and I'm clean and sober again. My New Year's Wish is to build my business back up better than ever. — Joel

Radcliff's New Year's Wish“My goals are to graduate from the mission and get my GED...”

I came to the United States from Jamaica in 1996 and my life went downhill because of cocaine. But I found love at The Bowery Mission and today I choose to live and get the help I need. The people here give me strength. My goals in 2012 are to graduate from the mission, then go back to school to get my GED. — Radcliff

Carol's New Year's Wish"I found hope here and now I feel enthusiastic about the future…”

I lost my job and my apartment, and that caused me to relapse and drink again. At the rehab program, they recommended me to come to The Bowery Mission for a new start, I found hope here and now I feel enthusiastic about the future. For the New Year I envision a new full-time job in administration and ministry and a home of my own. — Carol
