"I was clinically 'dead'"
Red Door Newsletter - February 2011
Curtis has been dealing with a heart condition for more than 20 years.
So it’s not just winter days that are hard on him. It’s EVERY day.
“I’ve had my aortic valve replaced three times,” he recalls. “The third time I bled out. I was clinically ‘dead’ for a moment.”
Now he’s on the list to receive a heart transplant.
Where does someone find peace in the midst of such uncertainty? Curtis says it’s the love and support he’s received from The Bowery Mission that have given him hope.
“The Mission has shown concern for me as an individual,” he explains. “That has helped me to build up my appreciation for God.”
He continues, “I’m not scared anymore. I have God. This is the hand I’ve been dealt, so I’m not afraid to play it.”
People come to The Bowery Mission for all sorts of reasons. But they all find the same thing: food, shelter, love and encouragement that come from a community that cares.
Your support this month is delivering hope and saving lives. Thank you for your commitment to doing the most good with your giving.
