Without God, lasting change is impossible

We can offer a homeless man a meal and give him a warm, comfortable bed to sleep in. We can offer him counseling and educational opportunities and help him find a job.

But if he doesn’t surrender his life to God, the changes are probably temporary at best.

If there’s one message I want New Yorkers to understand this Easter, it’s that lasting transformation is not possible without spiritual transformation.

The God who created the universe, who formed every one of us in our mothers’ wombs, who knows every mistake that we have ever made — and still loves us! — is infinitely better qualified than you or me to know what it takes to change the human heart.

Did you read Serigne’s story in this month’s newsletter? A partygoer, a drug user and a womanizer, he was desperate for change - but didn’t find it until he allowed God to take control of his life.

Every man and woman staying at our Mission could tell you the same story. No matter how dirty their past, no matter how unworthy they feel, God can replace despair with hope, tragedy with triumph.

That’s the kind of lifechanging difference you make possible when you support The Bowery Mission.

Please make another gift today, and help bring lasting hope to the streets of our great city.
