“My pockets are empty, but I feel like a millionaire!”
Red Door Newsletter – May 2011
It was Anthony’s last day in the run-down hotel room. His bags were packed, but he had no money and didn’t have anywhere to go. That’s when he came to The Bowery Mission.
He officially entered our residential recovery program on September 30, 2010. He remembers because, as he explains, “That’s the day I fell in love with God again.”
Then Anthony begins to rattle off all the ways the Mission has helped him:
- Get his GED
- Arrange for a job interview
- Take his focus off “chasing money” and replace it with God-centered living
- Trust people again
Anthony says, “It’s like the door is open and God has His hand out, saying, ‘Come on in!’” Then he quickly adds, “Now, my pockets are empty, but I feel like a millionaire!”
