“I grew up around criminals.”
Red Door Newsletter – May 2011
When I was 13 years old, I wanted to be a boxer. My mom and grandma said no. So I turned to the streets. Stealing cars. Taking advantage of people.
I grew up around criminals, so it was easy to be like them. And I paid for it. I spent a total of 20 years in prison.
When I came to The Bowery Mission, I kept asking myself, “Tracy, can you really walk this path?” But I have. I wanted Bible study; I wanted to learn lessons about God. And now good things are happening.
I’ve changed so much since coming to the Mission.
After everything I went through from my past, I can now lay my head down at night and feel peaceful.
I know I’m safe here.
