"I Have a Serenity I've Never Had Before"
Growing up, I always spent Thanksgiving with all my family. But once I fell into drugs and alcohol, I spent too many Thanksgivings in jail or strung out and alone. This Thanksgiving, I'm looking forward to spending the day with my mom and all my family. Thanks to The Bowery Mission, I have a serenity I've never had before. — Earl
"I've Been Sober for One Year, Thanks to The Bowery"
I've been using drugs a long time. The Bowery Mission saved my life. I plan to spend this Thanksgiving right here. It will mean I've been sober for one year, and thanks to The Bowery I've grown stronger as a person and I've grown closer to God. A stronger relationship with God — that's what I want, that's what I'm thankful for. — Keith
"Now I Can Tell My Mother I Kept My Promise"
My mother was always worried about me because I was active in drugs for many years. I lost my mother in 2005, and I still miss her. But before she died, I made her a promise: "Mother, when you rest in peace, be at peace, because I promise you, I'm going to be OK." This Thanksgiving, I'll be right here at The Bowery, and I'll be able to tell her, "Mother, I kept my promise." — Virgilio
