"Isn’t that just like God?"

Cindy and Daniel used together; now they’re sobering up together

Cindy's life was changed at The Bowery Mission

When I married Daniel, I didn’t know he was a drug addict. I was, too, although I kept trying to quit. Eventually, you get to the point where you say enough is enough. That’s how we both ended up at The Bowery Mission. That’s right. My husband’s in recovery, too, as part of the men’s residential program. Funny thing is, we’re going to graduate about the same time.

Isn’t that just like God? Today, I have a permanent bruise on my foot from where I used to shoot up drugs. Every time I notice it, I think of the way Jesus’ feet were nailed to the cross, and it reminds me that He understands my pain. I know I can go to God anytime and cry out, “Help me!” and He will.

A recent update from Cindy:

The eight years before I came here were rough - heroin, crack, in the hospital in cardiac arrest trying to commit suicide.  Even after that, I went back to heroin.  A pastor helped me to get to the Bowery Mission.

I was so sick and fragile when I came to the Women’s Center.  But in this past year, my life has been totally restored – physically, spiritually and with my family.  God is the source of my strength – I wake up every morning depending on Him.  I’ve learned so many things at the Center – how to use a computer, Bible classes, painting, and sewing – and the life skills I so desperately needed.

One of the sweetest things was when Daniel and I renewed our wedding vows in the garden at the Women’s Center.  It was like a beginning of a new life – I feel dumbfounded with the things that are happening all at once.  Last week, we moved into our new apartment.

I used to wonder if I would still be a junkie when I reached 60 years old.  But today it’s all different!  I am a wife, a mother, a grandmother – and soon to be great-grandmother!  God has done more than I could ask or imagine!

Thank you, because your giving has made all the difference in my life forever!

Both Cindy AND her husband, Daniel, found grace and healing at The Bowery Mission, thanks to your generous support.

Thank you for helping to give hope — and new life — to hurting people who desperately need a touch from God.
