Volunteer Meal Service opportunities

Meal Service volunteers in The Bowery Mission kitchen

Once known as a soup kitchen, The Bowery Mission is sometimes referred to as the busiest “restaurant” in New York City, serving more than 900 meals per day to poor and homeless men, women, and children and more recently, the unemployed who are doing everything possible to make ends meet.

Help to prepare, serve and clean-up from lunch or dinner alongside our staff and resident students at 227 Bowery.  During the lunch shift there may also be opportunities to help sort and organize food and clothing donations, along with other tasks of daily mission life.  This opportunity is for groups of 8-15 volunteers, depending on the shift.  This is our most popular volunteer opportunity; bookings are made at least one month in advance.
