About The Bowery Mission

The Bowery Mission has served homeless and hungry New Yorkers since the 1870s, when its neighborhood came to define the term “skid row.” Our children’s programs, called Mont Lawn City Camp & Mont Lawn Summer Camp, serve youth and began in 1894 by giving the children of recent immigrants the chance to escape the tenements in the summer.

Today, The Bowery Mission is a results-oriented organization that is recognized as one of New York City's most effective.

Our Purpose

The Bowery Mission exists to promote the flourishing of New Yorkers overcoming homelessness and marginalization by providing compassionate services and transformative community.

Our Goal

To be the most effective provider of compassionate care and life transformation for hurting people in the New York metro area.

Our Core Values

Every decision we make at The Bowery Mission is guided by our four core values.

1. Love Actively
We treat everyone with compassion, dignity and respect, seeking out those on the margins. We speak and act in a way that honors Christ.

2. Make it Better
We take stewardship of our time, talents and resources seriously. We give our best daily, working to be effective, looking for ways to continuously improve and advocating for opportunities for one another.

3. Respond to God’s Calling with Commitment
We stay prayerfully attuned to where God is leading, carrying out our work with a posture of service, humility and a perseverance that honors the Mission’s multi-generational legacy.

4. Anticipate God’s Intervention & Transformation
We seek to discern God’s wisdom and direction as we plan, and we keep our eyes on Him and expect miracles as we faithfully execute.
