Facts About At-Risk Youth in New York City

- Ten percent of all New York City households are headed by just a single mother – but out of all households below the poverty line, 39% are headed by a single mother.
- In 2008, the dropout rate in America was 10%, while in New York City 37% of the more than 1.1 million youth in the NYC public school system will drop out.
- Only 21% of NYC 8th graders can read proficiently, and only 26% can do math proficiently.
