Okay, got it!

40 Years Later, His Life is Still Full of Joy

"I thank God that 40 years ago I knew where to go for help."

FrankMy name is Frank and about 40 years ago, my life was saved in every way.

I started drinking when I was 15 years old, because it made me feel important. But my love for that poison cost me a lot of things and took many years from my life. It got me kicked out of my family, the Army, different jobs and eventually, homeless shelters. It was a continuous cycle that I just couldn’t get myself out of.

While I was living on the streets, I heard about The Bowery Mission through some friends and would come for meals. But the temptation to drink was still too strong.

It wasn’t until I was stabbed in the park one night that I got serious about changing my life for good. I could have bled to death, but I thank God I knew the Mission was here to help. The medical care I received that night saved my life.

It’s been 40 years since I knocked on the Mission’s doors, and it’s been like a home to me ever since. It’s where I let God into my life and learned to pray and work hard instead of turning to booze. God showed me that He had a wonderful plan for my life.

He opened a door for me to get a steady job. Just three years ago, I retired after 37 years! He even gave me a new family. I met my wife at church, and I took her two teenage children as my own. My wife and I shared 39 years together until she passed away last year. I miss her, but I know God is keeping me here for a reason.

I wouldn’t be alive without The Bowery Mission, guaranteed. Luckily, God chose to save me 40 years ago and keeps me around to tell my story. A story that begins with addiction, homelessness and violence and ends with family, redemption and new life!

It’s amazing to see how, so many years later, the same doors that were open to me are continuing to give hope to many others.
