Okay, got it!

Thank you for keeping the Mission's red doors open for Anthony

"In my darkest moments, there was always a light on at The Bowery Mission."

AnthonyMy name is Anthony, and I've needed many second chances in my life.

I grew up in South Brooklyn, surrounded by drug addiction, violence and poverty. I started drinking when I was 11 and started smoking marijuana in junior high. Even though I went to school and played sports, drugs were a normal part of my life.

As I got older, I had some good jobs and was married for nine years. My two stepdaughters and son are huge blessings. But when you cope with hard times by drinking and drugging, it doesn't take long before you hit rock bottom — over and over again.

When my uncle died, when my marriage fell apart, when my dad passed away and I became homeless... I always turned to the bottle to escape the pain. But in my darkest moments, there was always a light on at The Bowery Mission.

The first few times I came to the Mission, they gave me food and shelter until I could get a new job or apartment. But I never stayed long enough to change on the inside.

When I finally stayed and graduated from The Bowery Mission's men's program, it gave me a firm foundation and hope for my future. I learned that I didn't have to drink to deal with problems; I could go to God instead.

The classes, fellowship and support of the Mission volunteers really changed my life. They encouraged me to finish my college degree. And they helped me become the father and man God created me to be.

Over the years, The Bowery Mission helped when I needed it most and never gave up on me. They welcomed me whenever I showed up at those red doors and they will always hold a very special place in my heart.

Broken men who come to The Bowery Mission, like Anthony, need care, compassion and help to rebuild their lives. Your gifts help make that happen. Thank you for your generosity.
