Clean clothes provide a great deal of relief to a homeless neighbor after being out on the streets all day. Whether during the cold months of winter or the sweltering days of summer, the season feels extra-long when you are living on the streets or sleeping in a subway car. Last year, our donors and volunteers helped The Bowery Mission distribute 56,200 articles of clothing.
We can accept clean, new and gently used men's clothing. Some of our most needed items for men include jeans, professional clothing and shoes. We also have an ongoing need for new underwear, undershirts (large sizes) and socks. In the winter, we are especially in need of warm outerwear: coats, jackets, hats, gloves and scarves.
Unfortunately, at this time, we are not able to accept used women's or children's clothing. However, new women's clothing is acceptable.
We gratefully accept donations Monday – Saturday, 7am – 7pm at 227 Bowery in Manhattan. At this time, we are unable to pick up clothing donations. If you have any questions regarding a clothing donation please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
If you drop off the item(s) in person, you will be given an in-kind gift receipt that describes the donation. If the value exceeds $500 and you claim the donation on your federal tax return, you may be required to file IRS Form 8283 and obtain an appraisal of the value.
If you are considering a clothing drive at your organization, workplace, school, or congregation, please let us know by emailing email@example.com. We will work with you to launch a successful drive that will bless those we serve.
